The Politician's Register: Being a Supplement to the Whig Almanac for 1844.

New York: Greeley & McElrath, 1844. Sixth Edition. 12mo, 32 pages, publisher's original printed yellow wraps. Published during the contentious presidential election year of 1844, this political pamphlet was issued as a supplement to the Whig Almanac by Greeley & McElrath, publishers of the influential New-York Tribune. Associated with prominent newspaper editor and Whig Party advocate Horace Greeley, the publication compiles electoral statistics and political information, offering a contemporary perspective on American politics during the antebellum period. Its appearance coincided with the presidential contest between Whig candidate Henry Clay and Democrat James K. Polk, when questions of territorial expansion, the annexation of Texas, and national economic policy dominated political debate. An interesting example of nineteenth-century American political ephemera and an informative primary source for the study of early American electoral history. Some scattered foxing and discoloration, a few creases, some slight wear, else in very good condition. Item #679
