A substantial early eighteenth-century scholarly collection of medieval and ecclesiastical source texts compiled by the Benedictine historian and antiquary Bernhard Pez. *Thesaurus Anecdotorum Novissimus* gathers previously unpublished or little-known manuscripts drawn chiefly from German and Austrian monastic libraries, preserving chronicles, saints’ lives, theological writings, letters, ecclesiastical documents, monastic records, and other primary sources relating to medieval Christianity and European church history. An important work of Benedictine scholarship and antiquarian research, the set reflects the great eighteenth-century effort to recover, edit, and publish the manuscript heritage of the Middle Ages. Of particular interest for the study of medieval history, church history, monasticism, hagiography, theology, German and Austrian history, manuscript studies, and early modern historical scholarship. This set comprises Tomes I–IV only of the six-tome work. Formerly an institutionally held copy with bookplates and some of the typical markings. Hinges cracked, backstrips are either missing or damaged, tome 1 has a repair towards the top of spine, leather deteriorating, scattered foxing and discoloration throughout, rubbing and wear, else in good + condition.
