Written from a secularist and freethought perspective, it challenges Blavatsky’s claims and reputation, examines the Coulomb affair and the Society for Psychical Research investigation, and pointedly compares Blavatsky to the eighteenth-century occultist and adventurer Cagliostro. An uncommon primary source documenting the contentious public debates surrounding Theosophy, Victorian occultism, freethought, Blavatsky, and Annie Besant.
