The Birthday of the King is a scarce early twentieth-century Christmas gift booklet by Lavinia E. Chester, containing devotional verse centered on the Nativity and the birth of Christ. Published by the International Art Publishing Co. of New York and Berlin and printed in Germany, the booklet reflects the firm's attractive production of decorative holiday and religious ephemera during the period. Measuring approximately 5¼ × 3¼ inches, it comprises 8 pages including the title and is bound in the publisher's original tied wrappers with an embossed color decoration to the front. Publisher's number 6660 appears in the imprint. A charming and apparently uncommon example of turn-of-the-century American Christmas literature and illustrated religious ephemera, likely issued circa 1900–1915. Some minor discoloration, previous owner's name in pencil on rear wrap, slight rubbing, else in very good + condition. Item #515
