OYEZ, Autumn Equinox 1980, is an early and uncommon issue of the Thelemic journal published by Heru-Ra-Ha Lodge, Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.), the Southern California lodge closely associated with occult author, magician, and O.T.O. figure Lon Milo DuQuette and the revival of the Order under Grady Louis McMurtry. This 24-page issue contains “What Hath Guilds Wrought,” “Guild Activities,” excerpts from Aleister Crowley’s Liber Aleph, “An Introduction to Computer Qabalah,” “Finger of Yod,” “Consulting the Oracle,” and Crowley’s Liber XXI: Khing Kang King. Of particular bibliographical interest, Liber XXI begins on the rear wrapper and is arranged to be read from the back of the publication inward, creating an unusual reverse-reading format distinct from the remainder of the issue. Text is printed on both sides of the original wrappers. A scarce example of late twentieth-century O.T.O. ephemera and Thelemic periodical literature, with material relating to Aleister Crowley, Thelema, Ordo Templi Orientis, Hermetic Qabalah, ceremonial magic, occultism, divination, magical practice, computer Qabalah, and the activities of Heru-Ra-Ha Lodge during the formative McMurtry-era revival of the modern O.T.O. An appealing item for collectors of Crowleyana, Thelemic publications, occult periodicals, modern ceremonial magic, and American esoteric and alternative religious movements.
