History of the Fourth Tennessee Cavalry: U.S.A. War of the Rebellion 1861-65: All of Which I Saw and Part of What I Was
Knoxville, Tennessee: Stubley Printing Company, 1929. First Edition. Octavo, 150 pages, publisher's original blue cloth covered boards. First edition of this scarce firsthand regimental history of the 4th Tennessee Cavalry, U.S.A., one of the Union cavalry regiments raised in Tennessee during the Civil War. Written by Alexander Eckel, a veteran of Company C, the work records the regiment’s organization, campaigns, engagements, hardships, and service from 1861 to 1865, while also preserving Eckel’s personal recollections of events he witnessed and in which he participated. The volume is especially significant for its account of Southern Unionism in Tennessee and offers valuable source material on East Tennessee loyalties, Union cavalry operations, and the experiences of Tennessee soldiers who fought for the United States. An important and increasingly scarce contribution to the literature of Tennessee and Civil War military history. Apparently not in Dornbusch, Nevins, or Eicher. Front hinge cracked, some slight discoloration, apparently lacking two of the three plates, slight rubbing, else in good + condition. Item #442
