The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott is a handsome five-volume edition of the Scottish author’s verse, edited with a biographical memoir by John Dennis and published by George Bell & Sons in 1892. The set brings together Scott’s celebrated narrative poems, ballads, songs, and shorter works, including the poetry that helped establish his reputation as one of the leading literary figures of the Romantic era. This copy is especially notable for its fine contemporary binding by Root & Son. Despite condition issues affecting the bindings, it remains an attractive example of late nineteenth-century English bookbinding and a desirable decorative set for collectors of Walter Scott, fine bindings, Scottish literature, and finely bound editions of the British poets. Rubbing and wear, with scuffing to the boards, discoloration and damage to the spines. Both the front and rear boards of Volumes I and V are detached.
