Spine with gilt decoration. Top edge gilt. Illustrated throughout in black-and-white. Poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson, with illustrations by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale, is an attractive Edwardian illustrated edition of the works of one of the greatest Victorian poets. Published in London by George Bell & Sons in 1905, this edition pairs Tennyson’s romantic, lyrical, and medieval-inspired poetry with Brickdale’s elegant illustrations, which reflect the influence of the Pre-Raphaelite and Arts and Crafts traditions. The volume includes many of Tennyson’s best-known poems and offers a fine example of early 20th-century British gift-book design, combining literary importance with decorative illustration. Brickdale, one of the notable women illustrators of the period, brings a refined visual quality to Tennyson’s themes of chivalry, love, nature, legend, mourning, and spiritual reflection. Spine discolored, with the leather dry and crumbling. Some rubbing and wear, discoloration, else in good + condition. Item #408
