Transactions of the Blavatsky Lodge of the Theosophical Society: Discussions on the Stanzas of the First Volume of The Secret Doctrine [Part I & Part II.]

London: The Theosophical Publishing Society, 1890. First Edition. Two small slim quartos, 64; 47 pages, bound in quarter leather over pebbled boards. Transactions of the Blavatsky Lodge of the Theosophical Society: Discussions on the Stanzas of the First Volume of The Secret Doctrine is an important early Theosophical publication preserving H. P. Blavatsky’s oral explanations of the opening stanzas of The Secret Doctrine, especially the mysterious Stanzas of Dzyan and their teachings on cosmic evolution, primordial consciousness, matter, symbolism, cycles, and the metaphysical structure of the universe. The material originated in a series of question-and-answer meetings held by the Blavatsky Lodge in London, where students sought clarification on some of the most difficult passages in Blavatsky’s major work. The resulting discussions were issued in two separate parts, Part I in 1890 and Part II in 1891, but the publication was not completed as originally intended; a further continuation was apparently projected, but Blavatsky’s death in May 1891 left the work unfinished, so the published Transactions cover only the early portion of the first volume of The Secret Doctrine. Because of this incomplete publication history, the two parts have added interest as both a rare early companion to Blavatsky’s central text and a near-contemporary record of her own attempts to explain, expand, and defend the occult cosmology at the heart of modern Theosophy. Some rubbing and wear, damage to top and bottom of spines, minimal discoloration, else in good + condition. Item #354
