Lisboa: Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, 1945. First Edition, Limited Edition of 200 copies, of which this is number 4. Signed by the author on the limitation page. Also, with a signed inscription by the author on the half title page. Quarto, 63 pages. Illustrated in black-and-white. Laid in is a receipt from 1975, when this book was sold by a prior dealer. Text in Portuguese. A limited and illustrated study of Lisbon’s municipal government during the Portuguese Civil War / Liberal Wars period, O Senado da Câmara e a Guerra Civil, 1820–1834 examines the role of the old Senado da Câmara of Lisbon amid the constitutional struggles between liberals and Miguelite absolutists. Published by the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa in 1945, this copy is especially desirable as number 4 of only 200 copies, numbered and rubricated by the author, Ferreira de Andrade. It is further distinguished by a warm presentation inscription from Andrade to Luís Pastor de Macedo, an important Lisbon historian and olisipógrafo, praising him as “one of the strongest figures in Portuguese historiography.” A fine association copy of a scarce Lisbon historical work, linking two notable figures in Portuguese local and municipal history. Lacks wraps, age toning, some pencil marginalia, else in good condition. Item #307
